Guitar Hero on Nintendo DS

After the run-away success of the Guitar Hero series it was inevitable there would eventually be a version for Nintendo’s handheld DS. The big question was how Activision could replicate the same thrills of the original without the usual plastic guitar controller.

Developers Vicarious Visions have got around the probem with the 'Guitar Grip', a four fret add-on that snaps onto the DS' GameBoy Advance slot.

While it adds a little bulk to the device, and sometimes slips out of its slot when played a little too vigorously, it does a fair job of delivering the same Guitar Hero experience on the move.

On Tour plays fairly similarly to Xbox 360 versions, with the addition of a few new exclusive features.

For example, you have to shout 'Rock On!' into the DS’s mic to activate the game’s Star Power bonus mode, while the use of a pick that you "strum" to play notes on the console’s touchcreen is another nice touch that makes good use of the console’s features.

Storage limitations mean there are only 25 tracks to rock out to, with Nirvana, Twisted Sister and Bloc Party are among those that make an appearance here.

Despite the lack of tuneage, On Tour stands up as a decent attempt at recreating a recent rock classic.
